Review

''Scoop'' is written and directed by Woody Allen. In genre, it is a murder mystery and comedy, along with bits of romantic elements. In the film, a journalist named Joe Strombel dies. Before his death, he had been investigating the case of serial killer named Tarot Card Killer. After his death, Joe Strombel meets a woman, who says that she suspects that the Tarot Card Killer is actually the man whom she used to work forthe film then shows us a beautiful young woman, Sondra Pransky, who studies journalism. Attending a magic show of the magician Sidney Waterman, she agrees to participate in one of Waterman's magic tricks, and while she is standing in a box, the ghost of Strombel visits her the ghost informs her that Peter Lyman may be the killer.. Sondra, being an aspiring journalist, decides to investigate the case. The magician, Sidney, helps her. She pretends to be an actress named Jade Spence, and Sid pretends to be her father. And then they get close to Peter Lyman in order to get to know if he is indeed the murderer. Then, as you might have predicted, there is a love story, but however, Sondra tries her best to avoid her emotions, and investigate the murders properly. Scarlett Johansson, Woody Allen and the handsome Hugh Jackman give excellent performances. The characters don't have much depth, but it doesn't affect the movie much. The relation that goes to develop between Sondra and Sid is a real father-daughter relationship. Meanwhile, Sondra and Peter are both falling in love with each other, and Sondra keeps on pretending, taking advantage of Peter's love for her, in order to investigate. The film never gets creepy; However intense the mystery is, the film always stays light, never getting much emotional and it never gets scary.

Finally, I think it it is a good movie and a lighthearted mystery comedy film. I liked it, really. A well-made film.
