Review
A horror film, right? ''The Cabin in the Woods'' is a horror film. It does give scares and does have a horror film plot. But then what happens? By the end of the film, I felt only half-satisfied. The revelations were different and interesting, but the overall film... In short, this film isn't totally satisfactory.
The story starts as a typical horror film story: five teenagers go to a cabin for spending the weekend. The cabin is situated in the woods, as the title says, and there is absolutely silence all around. There are no people around.
And then things start going bad. The teenagers start getting attacked one by one by monster.
Unknown to them, all these are being controlled by a group of people. They are watching the teenagers via hidden cameras, and are also controlling the monsters.
Well, that's the story. And as time passed, I felt the story getting a bit interesting, but however, not enough to make me watch it with full concentration. I watched the movie, liked the cinematography and effects, the music, and the acting, and overall, I enjoyed this film a bit. But not much, to tell the truth.
Generally, ''The Cabin in the Woods'' is a well-made film with a good story and the revelation is quite good, and the presentation is okay. Though starting with a typical horror film setting, the story gradually gets more interesting, the presentation gets good, and the film gets scary. At some scenes, the scares are truly scary, but at others, it isn't very scary in fact.
The actors who play the five teenagers all play their roles well, but I'd firstly like to mention Kristen Connolly and Fran Kranz. Both play their roles excellently as Dana and Marty respectively. The others, Chris Hemsworth, Jesse Williams and Anne Hutchison, are all good in their respective roles. Hemsworth, as the athletic and handsome Curt, Jesse Williams as the sensible Holden, and Anne Hutchison as Julie, play their roles well.
And there is also the presence of Richard Jenkins, and Bradley Whitford as two of the people who control the monsters.
As I mentioned before, I truly liked the cinematography. The background music was also good, with scary musical effects at times. And at some of the first scenes, beautiful music could be heard.
And overall, ''The Cabin in the Woods'' is a well-made horror movie with a good story, but overall, not fully satisfactory.
3 out of 5.
