Plot synopsis

Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are a famous on-screen couple, but Lina mistakenly thinks that they are really in love, which is denied by Don. When sound is introduced in the films, and Don and Lina's movie is to be a musical, they feel a problem as Lina has a rather nasty voice. Then they find a solution: Kathy Seldon, an aspiring actress, will dub over Lina's voice, while, as Lina urges, Kathy's name will not be shown in the credits. As time passes, Don falls in love with Kathy. What happens then? Will Kathy continue to work uncredited, or will get her deserved fame and attention?
